The Citizen-Centered Leadership Development Community of Practice series is a unique combination of self-paced distance learning study, robust field work, interactive class assignments and live webcast instruction designed to advance theoretic and skill-based learning leading to quality outcomes in the lives of people with disabilities.

Through the use of PowerPoint presentation, lecture and written materials participants will gain the knowledge and tools needed to provide critical information to SSI recipients with disabilities who are considering a return to work. Online polling will be used to test participant knowledge of work incentive utilization. A preparatory reading assignment will be provided and is required.

Cornell University’s Employment and Disability Institute (EDI) has been developing a body of research on effective secondary transition practices at the national level. Online interactions with data, video clips of diverse students, and live discussion with research faculty will transform this research into practical ideas.

This informational seminar provides basic information pertaining to benefits overpayments using lecture, PowerPoint and opportunity for question and answer. Online polling will be used to test participant knowledge.  A preparatory reading assignment will be provided and is required.

Creating the capacity to deliver high-quality transition and career development curricula and services requires highly individualized, student-centered planning and resource development. Participants will understand how person-centered leadership development for students with disabilities can build highly successful and sustainable secondary transition programs.

Participants will end the series by learning about one concrete way to achieve funding for their transition programs through the Social Security Administration's Ticket-to-Work Program. Two California school district educators will describe how they have used the Ticket to Work to provide a needed service -- while generating revenue to build their transition programs.
