NYS Partners in Policymaking presents TIES: Together Including Every Student
TIES promotes the participation of children and young adults with developmental disabilities in extracurricular and community activities by providing effective support. This support is provided by trained student volunteers from their own community. Previously, students with developmental disabilities who wanted to participate in activities, either did not attend because they didn’t have the support or did so with adult support. While attending with adult support, other students chose not be involved with the students with the developmental disabilities but now these students can fully include everyone while providing support.
Participants will:
Gain strategies for providing inclusive opportunities for students with disabilities.
Become familiar with the history and implementation of the TIES program.
Identify the value of volunteer peer supports.
