Through the use of a Power Point presentation, lecture and written materials participants will become acquainted with the great variety of agencies and partners that may be involved with a beneficiarys return to work.  Most importantly, what steps can be taken to ensure that all players are on the same page and none of the various plans conflict!  When the beneficiary enters a crisis period what is the practitioners role?  And how do you build time into your schedule to provide immediate assistance. Online polling will be used to ascertain knowledge acquisition. A preparatory reading assignment will be provided and is required.

How far have people with disabilities come in having equal opportunity in employment? Where have there been successes? Where are there still barriers to equal opportunity? In this session, we will consider data on the economic and employment lives of people with disabilities, demographic trends related to disability, legislative and policy changes, the business case for disability inclusiveness in the workplace, and “hot button” issues in the application of the law to disability inclusiveness in the workplace.

Guests with disabilities and many older guests with age-acquired functional limitations are an important part of a brand-loyal customer base for any property. Whether or not these guests “identify” as having disabilities, they offer an opportunity for property staff to knowledgably address their needs while complying with ADA regulations. This session will provide you with the “inside” information on this growing market segment. You will learn disability-savvy etiquette and language tips for assisting guests who are blind, deaf, or hard of hearing, or those who have mobility disabilities or intellectual disabilities. Successful tips on how to make your food service, your property, and your services more disability-friendly will be shared. Free training materials and resources will be provided. There will be ample time for questions and answers.

In high-income countries, considerable information is available on policy and program measures introduced to tackle employment, education and economic disparity experienced by individuals with disabilities. Trends in reducing and eliminating sheltered employment in this group of countries are well documented, and there is considerable evidence about new options that have emerged – including supported employment, social enterprises and telework. When it comes to the situation in low-income, developing countries, however, less information is available to inform policy decisions. This webinar draws on available evidence about work opportunities open to people with disabilities in such countries, examining what has been achieved and what remains to be done to promote decent work and tackle the poverty trap that many find themselves in. A particular focus is placed on self-employment and the development of cooperatives and small businesses, given that most new job opportunities in these countries lie in the informal economy. The discussion is set against the backdrop of international standards ratified by many developing countries that set a vision of equal opportunity and non-discrimination which must inform laws, policies and practice everywhere.

 It is a common misperception that having a disability is primarily a limitation or challenge, especially in the work setting.  But the reality is, jobseekers and employees with disabilities often have skills, talents, and legally afforded opportunities because of their disability, not in spite of it.  During this presentation, participants will engage in thoughtful discussion about how their disability experience, and related legal rights, can assist them in their job search, the application/interview process, and while working in a job.  

The trainer going to speak at the waiting area about the Rights of People with Mental Disabilities under the ADA and will be answering the questions of the audience about this subject.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) recently published “Business Strategies that Work: A Framework for Disability Inclusion.” This guide for employers focuses on policies and practices for recruiting, hiring, retaining, and advancing qualified individuals with disabilities and ensuring that the workplace is truly diverse and inclusive. It is organized into seven action areas.
