Assistive Technology and Transition from High School
Transition from secondary school is a time of great change in the lives of young people. They are presented with opportunities for independence that they have never faced before. Assistive technology can help to support young people as they leave the familiar surroundings of high school and move into post-secondary education and work. There are many considerations that students will have to make as they move into these new environments including how to know what technology they need, how to ask for the technology, and how to pay for it. This session will review these essential considerations along with a review of the types of technology that are commonly used for people with disabilities.

Accessible Technology in the Workplace
It is difficult to think of an occupation today that does not involve computers. Because technology use today is so interconnected, within a company as well as externally, any decisions regarding the use of technology must take into account the entire interconnected network. Assistive technology devices are available for accommodating people with a very wide range of needs. It provides access to the information technology used by the business world for people who experience functional limitations associated with disabilities. This session will provide a basic overview of the types of assistive technology currently in use by individuals with disabilities to gain access to or improve productivity with computing technology. It will also review the considerations when implementing assistive technology in the business world. This training presentation is based on one of a series of nine essential trainings developed and offered by the Business and Disability Technical Assistance Center at Cornell university.
