AREA OF EXPERTISE:

Educational Achievement and Transition

The future of education is changing. The enactment of No Child Left Behind and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act are forcing educators to review their practices and close the achievement gap between all students. At the Employment and Disability Institute, we advance policies and practices that support the improved outlook for employment, education, and a future of independence for students with disabilities through sound Transition Planning.

Mid-State Transition Coordination Site

Under contract with the New York State Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities, the Mid-State Transition Coordination Site coordinates regional resources critical to the implementation of transition planning and services and identifies means in which to advance systems change in order to assure quality outcomes for students with disabilities.

Model Transition Project (MTP)

Sixty school-agency partnerships have been selected and funded, through an RFP process, by the New York State Education Department. The Model Transition Project (MTP) is designed to develop local models of collaborative service delivery to students with disabilities as they prepare for life after high school. Resulting policies and funding strategies will sustain effective practices beyond the scope of the grant and encourage development of new, more effective collaborations. The project began on April 1, 2007, and is scheduled to continue through March 31, 2012.
