Steve Miranda : Biography

Steve Miranda is the Managing Director for Cornell University’s Center for Advanced Human Resource Studies (CAHRS), one of the world's leading partnerships between industry and academia devoted to the field of global human resource management. CAHRS partners represent 65 of the world's premier companies and have employees in almost every country in the world. Mr. Miranda’s responsibilities include setting the Center’s strategic direction, overall business development, and the management of both external and internal relationships.

Steve is also the Managing Director for Cornell University’s ILR Executive Education, offering both scheduled and custom designed programs that focus on the critical intersections of business strategy and human capital by translating the research of ILR’s world-class faculty into practice-oriented concepts. Mr. Miranda focuses on developing strategic partnerships between ILR Faculty and leading-edge companies to assist in enhancing these companies’ organizational competitive advantage.

Prior to joining Cornell, Mr. Miranda was the Chief Human Resource and Strategic Planning Officer for the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). SHRM is the world’s largest professional HR association, serving over 260,000 members in over 100 countries.

Before SHRM, Mr. Miranda was a HR Vice-President at Lucent Technologies responsible for supporting a wide variety of business units. Steve also spent 3-1/2 years in Hong Kong as Lucent’s Human Resources Vice-President for Asia Pacific.

Prior to moving into HR, Mr. Miranda spent several years managing global telecommunications software development projects for Bell Laboratories, the world-famous research arm of AT&T and later Lucent Technologies.

Mr. Miranda currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Ethics Resource Center, the Council for Adult Experiential Learning and is an adjunct professor in both Georgetown University’s graduate degree program and Thailand’s Chulalongkorn University’s Sasin School of Business. He is a strategic adviser to three start-up companies as well as a past United States representative to the World Federation of Personnel Management Associations (WFPMA). Steve is a frequent speaker at HR events around the globe and work that he and his teams have been associated with has appeared in the Harvard Business Review, Wall Street Journal, Wall Street Journal Online, New York Times, ABC television’s “20/20” news magazine, the BBC and National Public Radio (NPR).

Steve received his undergraduate degree in Liberal Arts and his graduate degree in Computer Science from the University of Detroit, both Summa Cum Laude.
