Rebecca Givan : Biography

Rebecca Givan joined the School of Industrial and Labor Relations as an Assistant Professor in August 2005. She received her PhD in Political Science from Northwestern University in 2004 and a BA from Oberlin College in 1997.  Prior to joining ILR, Professor Givan held positions at Cardiff Business School and the Centre for Economic Performance at the London School of Economics.  Her research has appeared in publications including Personnel Review, International Labor and Working Class History, British Journal of Industrial Relations and Public Administration, as well as several edited volumes.


Professor Givan serves on the advisory committees for the Institute for European Studies and the Institute for Women and Work.  She is a faculty affiliate at the Scheinman Institute on Conflict Resolution, and is a former fellow at the Institute for the Social Sciences.

Professor Givan teaches courses in the areas of collective bargaining and international and comparative labor.  Professor Givan's research and publications focus on employment relations in the healthcare sector in the United Kingdom and the United States.
