Francine Moccio : Biography

Francine Moccio holds a Ph.D. from the Graduate Faculty, New School for Social Research in Cultural Anthropology and Women's Studies. She is currently the Director of the Institute for Women and Work at Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations. Prior to coming to Cornell, Francine was Assistant Professor and Director of Working Women's Studies Program at the State University of New York, Empire State College. Over the past fifteen years, she has worked closely with various business and labor on such issues as working women's rights, work and family public policies and workplace practices. She has also worked closely with legislative bodies on issues affecting women in the workplace, such as sex and wage discrimination, preventing sexual harassment, collective bargaining issues, and union leadership training. Francine has written articles and manuscripts on working women's rights and the changing nature of work and family life.

Francine has conducted training on such issues as sexual harassment, gender equity, and public policy affecting working families for agencies such as the New York State Assembly and Senate, the New Jersey Senate, and the Women's Congressional Caucus. She has also appeared as an expert on women and work on network shows such as "Inside Albany," Sunday Nightly News (Channel 4), CNN and C-SPAN, as well as radio shows such as WABC, WOR, and the National Public Radio. She has been quoted in several newspapers and magazines including The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, Vogue Magazine, and Newsweek.

Currently, she is a Task Force Member of the National Women's Coalition for Labor Reform based in Washington D.C., and has repeatedly testified at congressional briefings and before the Dunlop Commission on the Future of Worker-Management Relations on the importance of social welfare, labor law reform and working families.
