Ariel Avgar : Biography

Ariel Avgar is a lecturer at the Cornell ILR School and the assistant director for research at the Scheinman Institute on Conflict Resolution. In January of 2008 Ariel will be joining the faculty at the University of Illinois, Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations. Ariel's research focuses on conflict and conflict resolution in organizations. His dissertation examined work restructuring, conflict and conflict management in the hospital setting. In addition, he is involved in a large interdisciplinary study of the effects of electronic medical recordkeeping technology in New York state nursing homes on employment and labor relations. Ariel has worked on evaluation projects both in the public and private sector and has conducted research on the evaluation of conflict management programs. He has also taught courses on conflict management for both the Cornell ILR School and for the Pepperdine Law School. Ariel received a B.S. in sociology and an LL.B in law in 2001 from Hebrew University and will receive his Ph.D. from the ILR School in January 2008.
