Bureau for Employers’ Activities (ACT-EMP)

The Bureau of Employers' Activities (ACT/EMP), is a unit of the International Labour Office that promotes the ILO principle of tripartism by helping employers' associations to be effective organizations.  ACT/EMP assists employer representatives in all ILO forums, helps employers' organization in developing and transition countries to improve performance, and helps the ILO secretariat to better understand and integrate employer concerns and interests in its work.

Job Description:

Besides being a part of the ACT/EMP team on a daily basis, the intern will assist in a number of specific and important activities that ACT/EMP will be involved in:

  • Assisting the employers' group of the Governing Body session, where the intern will specifically help with wages policy, rural employment policy, the Global Jobs Pact and international labour standards policy.
  • Helping to develop policy positions on labour market issues for employers in preparation for the 15th ILO Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting.
  • Working for the ACT/EMP International Symposium on the Business for Representing Employers:  Trends
  • Helping with the preparation of employer briefing notes on the proposed international labour standards on domestic work or on the cyclical review of social security or on the application of international labour standards, with a view to helping employers attending the upcoming International Labour Conference.

Special Skills:

Some knowledge of wage and employment economics, statistics, and business strategy and an interest in law would help.  Most important are an inquiring and solution-seeking mind, energy and independent thinking to contribute to the team.
