Watson Wyatt

New York City

Watson Wyatt is one of the world's largest HR consulting firms, located in over 30 countries.  These internships are with the NY office in our US Compensation Consulting Practice.  The Compensations Consulting team in NY has about 15 people and is part of an approximately 200 person office in Midtown Manhattan.  Our compensation consultants work with companies to design effective executive, and broad-based compensation programs (salary, bonus, stock, etc.).

We have two internship opportunities:  One is more research orientated and one more consulting-orientated.

Executive Compensation Research:

This intern will be able to use research and analytical skills learned at Cornell to help with special research projects.  You will work with the Head of our Practice to research the linkage between executive pay and company performance.  You will look for academic literature and other information written about specific executive compensation topics that you may decide to study.  You will assist with data analysis work, looking for correlations and trends.  We use these research projects to educate our clients and the business community of key trends.

Consulting:

This intern will have the opportunity to help our team with client projects.  We will teach you how to do competitive market pay comparisons--these comparisons form the foundation of many of our consulting projects.  You may also help with proposal writing, internet research, and may have the opportunity to attend some client meetings.

SKILLS:

Both positions require strong Excel skills & strong analytical skills.
Must also be well organized and able to work without heavy supervision.
People who can work independently and manage their own deadlines tend to be more successful in a consulting environment than others.

For the research intern, database management skills and strong statistical skills are important.  An
interest in economics, econometrics, and/or finance would be very helpful.

For the consulting intern, it is important to be able to work with numbers and understand how to reach conclusions after doing an analysis, such as a variance analysis.  Good writing skills would be helpful.

STIPEND:  $600/week
