Atlantic Records Corporation was born in 1947 by an aspired music fan named Ahmet Ertegun. Ertegun teamed up with Herb Abramson, and the company started off as a small, independent label focusing on jazz and R&B. The company rapidly grew into one of the paramount labels in the industry. Today, the Atlantic Group consists of Atlantic, Elektra, and Lava Records. All three labels have their own set of exceptional artists, in a wide range of genres. The office located at 1290 Avenue of the Americas in New York holds the majority of Atlantic employees. There are approximately 230 employees. Atlantic also has a branch located in Burbank, California.
The internship will be within the Human Resources department. Human Resources oversees all employee relations including recruitment, benefits, training, performance reviews, company salary, and bonus plans. They communicate company policies and procedures and work to improve fairness and employee loyalty. HR is responsible for updating and maintaining employee payroll and contract files, and allowing information to be easily accessed.
Specific duties for an intern within the department include a wide range of tasks and projects. For example, the intern will be responsible for helping to organize company event such as Mixers. Their main focus will be to add to and improve upon the internship program here at Atlantic. By doing so, it is important to form friendly relations and to gain feedback from interns in other departments. This feedback will be valuable for planning meaningful and enjoyable events for the interns. Past events include welcome orientations and inspiring guest speakers. Ideally, the HR intern will plan an event every month. Other tasks include situating the interns by explaining to them the required paperwork and updating correspondence and charts.
