My name is Caitlin Shetter and I recently graduated in the ILR Class of 2007. Professor Lipsky's Dispute Resolution course was without a doubt the most valuable course I took during my time at Cornell. In both of my internships at Walt Disney World Co. Labor Relations and Starbucks Coffee Co. Supply Chain Human Resources, I utilized all of the tools and techniques that I was provided with in the course and put them into action. This allowed my role within these two companies to become very strategic and goal oriented. The many mock exercises and case studies in the course gave me the real life foundation to apply the knowledge and then the confidence to take that into every field I enter in the future.
I also run my own National teen pregnancy prevention organization called Time Out, and whether it is working with the media on interviews and magazine articles, or addressing a group of Senators on Capitol Hill, the ADR based concept of finding creative alternatives and truly allowing others the opportunity to work together to find new solutions has been a tool I consistently use. I now work for VF, the worlds largest apparel company (Wrangler, Lee, North Face, Nautica, Vans, Reef, Sevens, Jansport, etc.) and am an HR Analyst within the Internal Audit department. I look forward to expanding my knowledge within the field of ADR and plan to take continuing education courses in this area.
