Background and Previous Experience

Julia Bartosch works at the Department of Management, School of Business and Economics, at Freie Universität Berlin (Germany). She is interested in economic sociology and organizational theory, specifically institutional theory, work organization, and employment relations, as well as in corporate governance and corporate social responsibility. She is currently working on her dissertation under the supervision of Professor Gregory Jackson. The project title is Green from the inside? A comparative study of corporate governance and corporations’ environmental behavior.

Her current research interest is in environmental activities of corporations. Using an institutional approach, she investigates the variation in corporations’ environmental behavior by focusing on corporate governance institutions. She focuses on corporate governance institutions as one main structuring force of the interests and power of corporate actors. The interests thus lie in how corporate actors and their differences between institutional contexts impact corporate environmental behavior. Whereas several studies investigate corporations’ responsibilities from a management perspective, she observes corporate behavior as a much more complex result of interorganizational processes and embedded in a broad institutional context. For the empirical investigation of this topic she applies a mixed-method approach.

Current Research at ILR

During her research stay at the ILR School, she will consult with scholars to get insights on the role of labor in corporate governance and how employee interests are related to corporations’ environmental behavior in general.  Herein, insights about differences between countries are especially important for her comparative approach. Furthermore, she aims to discuss comparative methods with ILR scholars. For all her purposes, the ILR School represents an excellent setting.
