Guidelines for Non-ILR Students Interviewing Through OCS
Students from Cornell schools and colleges other than ILR are sometimes interested in the positions being filled by employers recruiting in our office. These students must meet with the Director to gain permission to participate in our on-campus recruiting program. Please note that this permission is only given to students who have the educational background and experience that makes them reasonable candidates for the positions our employers are filling.
If granted this approval, you will be expected to follow all guidelines and policies that govern ILR students’ use of Cornell CareerNet (CCNet). In addition, because you are not registered as an ILR student, you will not be able to submit your résumé directly to the employer through CCNet. Instead, you will need to send a cover letter and a copy of your résumé via e-mail to the Recruiting Contact for each job that you wish to interview for. Explain that you are a non-ILR student who wishes to be considered for the position, and make it clear that we have asked you to write this letter. The employer will add your name to the preselect list on CCNet if you are successful in making a case for your candidacy.
Check your status in CCNet regularly. If an employer designates you a preselect for an interview, you will be able to sign up for an interview online, just as if you were an ILR student. Be sure to attend employer information sessions, as appropriate. You should report to the reception area in 201 Ives Hall 15 minutes before your scheduled interview time.
