Job Opportunity: Last year this WISP included tours of Broadway theaters and meetings with Company and Theater Managers and performing arts union representatives. This year the theme is the film and TV industries in NYC. We are working on arranging tours of studios where popular TV shows and movies are made and meet the people who do the work behind the scenes. We will also meet with union and management representatives to learn about the HR/LR issues in the industry. More details about which shows and locations we will visit will be posted as they are confirmed. Based on the experience of past years most of the tours are confirmed relatively close to the actual tour but there have always been interesting places to see and people to meet.

The intern would be expected to complete a written assessment of their experience for use in improving upon the WISP internship in the future.

Job Opportunity: This unique internship for ILR juniors and seniors is designed by ILR alumni for those students who may be interested in a career in labor and employment law and will benefit from a practical overview of the labor and employment law field. A committee of  ILR alumni will select three students to work in Labor and Employment Practice in Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., or New York City. Each applicant must specify his or her preferred location, in order of preference. The internship program includes: Defense of individual and class action discrimination claims; Traditional labor matters; Department of Labor regulatory issues; Wage and hour lawsuits, including nationwide collective actions; Employee benefits litigation; Immigration law; and Employer training programs. Our three interns will spend their first day in Philadelphia receiving an overview of the various practice area specialties. The New York and Washington, D.C. interns will travel to Philadelphia by train accompanied by an attorney and will return home at the end of the day. The remaining portion of the internship program will involve a specific assignment dealing with timely legal issues as well as interaction with labor and employment attorneys in their offices, including "shadowing" where available.

This year, we have an exceptional amount going on through the Fall and Winter, so planning a formal on-site FEX/WISP will not be an option. I've worked in compensation for Texas Instruments, Marriott International, and The Washington Post Company. As an ILR student, I participated in WISP, the Credit Internship Program, and on-campus recruitment, completing HR Generalist, Staffing, and Compensation/University Relations internships with BorgWarner Morse TEC, ILR's HR Office, Bear Stearns & Co. and Texas Instruments. I was also active in MILRSO and an ILR Ambassador. Review of Personnel Policies and Procedures Handbook & Recommendations for any changes regarding Federal and State labor laws.  The labor laws in California always meet or exceed Federal guidelines.  Compensation & Benefits Benchmarking Research, Compensation Strategy Implementation & suggestions.  This project will entail some research and/or full creation of the compensation strategy and/or implementation of integration with the HRIS software.  Compensation policies for Non Profits are very different from for profit corporations so if you did not cover this in your studies I recommend you do a little research. HRIS Data Entry to New Software Program.  We have a simple software program in which we need to enter all of the data for our current 23 employees.  If time permits we would also like to enter data for our old employees. Internship might require some light administrative support such as answering phones, copying, and scanning documents but the primary and main focus will be the projects described above.
