The Freshman Externship Program (FEX) provides an invaluable opportunity for students during winter break to explore diverse ILR-related career fields, gain first-hand work exposure, and network with alumni. Students usually choose a FEX opportunity in a location near their home towns because they are responsible for arranging transportation to and from the FEX location.
We typically offer FEX opportunities in the labor, corporate, government, and non-profit sectors. Specific opportunities vary from year to year; to review prior positions, see the past sponsors. FEX sponsors are usually ILR alumni who agree to host students in the workplace to introduce them to a career field.
Students are placed in externships in one of two ways: through the lottery process or an independent search. Participants are free to pursue either of these options, though most students simply choose to go through the lottery. The best choice for each participant will depend on his or her geographic or organizational needs, as well as his or her career interests.
The deadline for submitting your resume and online application is September 30 at noon. Check back here in early fall for more details and instructions on how to participate.
