Harold Tanner

Harold Tanner '52 is president of Tanner & Co., Inc., a private investment banking firm he founded in New York City in 1987. He was formerly a managing director of Salomon Brothers, Inc., where he had responsibility for the Corporate Finance Department. Harold has spent his entire career in the investment banking business. He currently serves as director of TIG, Inc.
One of Cornell and ILR's most involved advisors and fundraisers, Mr. Tanner has been a member of the University Board of Trustees since 1982, joining the executive committee in 1986. After serving as vice-chair for 5 years, Harold became chairman of the board in 1997. Additionally, he has served on many committees around campus and as a fundraising advisor to several deans. He and his wife, Nicki, have been recognized as foremost benefactors of Cornell University.
In addition to his Cornell activities, Mr. Tanner is President of the American Jewish Committee, a Trustee of the Revson Foundation and Classroom, Inc., and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He was on the Board of the Associates of the Harvard Business School, where he received his MBA, and is a founder of the Volunteer Consulting Group, Inc. He was honored with the Harvard Business School Alumni Achievement Award in 1992 and the Herbert Lehman Award of the American Jewish Committee in 1995.
Mr. and Mrs. Tanner live in New York City and Scarsdale, New York. They have three children, including Karen AB '83; they also have eight grandsons.
