Elizabeth Moore, '75
Groat Award Winner 2003
Elizabeth Moore ’75, partner, Nixon Peabody LLP, has been announced as the recipient of the 2003 Judge William B. Groat Alumni Award. Moore was recognized for her accomplishments in the field as well as her commitment to the School. At Nixon Peabody, Moore specializes in labor and employment benefits. Prior to joining the firm, Moore served as assistant counsel to former New York State Governor Hugh Carey, director of the governor’s office of employee relations, and as counsel to former State Governor Mario Cuomo. In her time in the government, Moore directed the labor negotiations with six public employee unions representing nearly 200,000 state employees, including state university faculty and staff, and administered the State’s collective bargaining agreements and a broad range of labor and management committee activities, and employee benefit packages. She has had an equally strong impact with her involvement at Cornell University. A fellow of the board of trustees, Moore currently vice-chairs the trustee committee on land grant and statutory college affairs and sits on five other trustee committees. She currently serves as a member of the ILR Advisory Council, which she co-chaired in the past, and is a strong supporter of ILR events and academic initiatives. Moore is very active in PCCW (President’s Council of Cornell Women) and, finally, was recently asked to chair the University’s Minority Initiative Implementation Committee.
