ILR in the Campaign
ILR's ability to continue to build upon its great legacy is dependent on your support. ILR is committed. By necessity, we will turn to our alumni and friends to help.
ILR's current overall financial situation is good. This has come about through two avenues:
- increasing reliance on tuition revenue to fill in for declining state contributions, and
- private support.
We see increasing need for future support to address infrastructure and program needs. ILR will be aggressive in fundraising for the Campaign by necessity. We can't expect tuition to increase at a rate that will accommodate ILR's future needs. We anticipate that state dollars to ILR will continue to decline. (The figure currently stands at 17% of our budget.) Aside from the need to fill in this gap, the upcoming capital campaign is an enormous opportunity for the School. Success for ILR will be critical to our ability to remain competitive and keep us in a leadership position.
Far Above... The Campaign for Cornell
Kick-off took place in October 26, 2006.
ILR's Campaign Priorities
The focus will be on ILR's infrastructure and program needs in areas such as those outlined below. Endowment will be a priority.
Faculty Support
The establishment of named chairs is needed to retain faculty, and chairs provide budget relief, which frees up resources for use by the dean and the School. ILR's Faculty Excellence Fund has become critical to the School's ability to recruit and retain faculty and provide them with research funds. The fund, established in 1999, is important in ILR's ability to compete for academics. Check Celebrate Cornell Faculty for more.
Building
ILR has entered Phase Three of Ives renovations, which includes finishing off the old faculty wing.
Capital grants for construction from the state have been very critical to ILR's current status. For the most recent building campaigns and Phase Three immediately ahead, the state has committed funds at the base amount necessary. The enhancements that make ILR a cutting-edge institution must come from alumni and other private sources, which allows ILR to finish off facilities above the state standard.
International/Global Initiatives and Diversity Initiatives in Undergraduate and Graduate-Level Programming
ILR will need to provide scholarship and fellowship support to give students the opportunity to fully experience international issues. The diversity in our student population must be represented fully in their participation in programs, whatever their socioeconomic background. We also need more actively to recruit diverse students (and faculty) and support them when they are here.
Please help us continue to strengthen and grow ILR's commitment to outreach and advancing the world of work. Check back. We will make additional information about the campaign available as the kick-off approaches.
