The Kheel Center, Catherwood Library, invites you to a live webinar hosted by your alma mater.
"The Woman Behind the New Deal: The Life of Frances Perkins, FDR's Secretary of Labor and his Moral Conscience" by Kirstin Downey
Award-winning author Kirstin Downey will discuss her new biography of Frances Perkins, Secretary of Labor under FDR and the first woman to hold a cabinet position in the United States. Perkins was a passionate reformer, whose ideas became the cornerstone of some of the most important social welfare legislation in the nation's history. In 1911 she witnessed the Triangle Fire tragedy, an event she recalled in a lecture at ILR in 1964.
Perkins ended her distinguished career at the ILR School, where she was a visiting lecturer from 1957 until her death in 1965.
