Library & Student Support Resources
ILR's Martin P. Catherwood Library
As a Cornell student, you will have access to all 20 Cornell libraries spread across the Ithaca campus and extending to New York City, Geneva, N.Y., and Doha, Qatar. ILR is home to the Martin P. Catherwood Library, the foremost academic collection on the workplace in the U.S.
The resources and staff members of the Catherwood Library play an important role in helping our students succeed in their classes and reach their academic potential. For example, Catherwood staff members provide workshops throughout the year that are particularly relevant to the interests and assignments of ILR students. This includes workshops on:
- Conducting legal research
- Using Cornell Library databases to retrieve legislative history documents
- Researching country- and company-specific statistical, economic, and best practices information
- Understanding new options, advancements, and information available through Google Applications, Microsoft Office programs, and databases such as Lexis Nexis
Distance Learning
A commitment to meeting the challenges of the 21st century drives the ILR School's initiative in distance learning, which uses multiple-party telecommunications technology to give the school a presence far beyond Ives Hall. Two classrooms in the new building of the ILR School support technologies that are designed specifically for distance learning. They allow undergraduates at other institutions, as well as executives and other guest lecturers from around the world to interact with ILR School professors and students during class.
ILR's Office of Student Services
The counselors in ILR's Office of Student Services are always available to advise you on course selection and degree completion, as well as other areas of academic and social concern, such as study abroad, credit internships, honors programs, independent study, and multicultural affairs. For more information, visit the ILR Office of Student Services website.
ILR's Office of Career Services
When you are ready to plan for life beyond ILR, the Office of Career Services is ready to help. They will work with you to plan an internship over the summer and during winter break. If you plan to enter the job market, they will help you with your job search, résumé preparation, and interviewing skills. You will also want to participate in their active on-campus recruiting program.
If you plan to further your education at the graduate level, they will help you find the right school and assist you in the application process (although note that pre-law advising is done by the Director in the Office of Student Services). For more information, visit the ILR Office of Career Services website.
