Internships and Work Experience Programs
One of the ILR school's strengths is the educational experiences you will get outside the classroom. For example, the semester-long credit internship program gives you a chance to work with a company, get prepared for the future, and even consider job prospects. Summer and other internships are available as well.
As you might expect, ILR excels at programs that let you experience life in the working world — often while earning cash and academic credit.
Freshman Externship Program
During the winter break after the first semester, students can shadow a professional in the field for an entire day. For more information contact the ILR Office of Career Services.
Winter Intersession Program
During the first three weeks in January, sophomores, juniors and seniors as well as first-year master's degree candidates volunteer their services in unions, corporations, and public agencies in order to complement their education with practical work experiences. For more information contact the ILR Office of Career Services.
Summer Employment Opportunities
Many organizations recruit ILR students for summer positions in a variety of career areas. For more information contact the ILR Office of Career Services.

Research Apprenticeships
Approximately six students each year, and another six each summer, work closely with a professor learning research methods, discovering whether they're interested in this sort of work, and earning some cash. For more information see Undergraduate Research.
Credit Internship Program
Forty percent of ILR juniors and seniors participate in semester-long professional internships, gaining valuable on-the-job experience and earning college credit. ILR alumni provide a world-wide network for internships and possible jobs after graduation at organizations such as the U.S. House and Senate Committees, Citibank, General Motors, Goldman Sachs, IBM, MCI, Morgan Stanley, Nabisco, Proskauer Rose, Universal Studios, and Xerox, to name a few.
ILR internship programs are renowned for providing students with a vivid understanding of problems in labor and industrial relations through observation and participation in "real-life" problem solving. The ILR has several other programs that offer students real-world experiences both in the U.S. and abroad.
