Program Costs

The Cornell Graduate School has complete and frequently updated information on tuition, cost of living expenses, and some funding options offered through the graduate school. The Graduate School, along with the Cornell Financial Aid Office handles all federal loan information.

MILR program tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year is $15,392.50 per semester ($30,785 per year). Students are also responsible for the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), which will cost approximately $2,352 per year for an individual student (family rates are available). The Graduate School further estimates room and board at $16,200 per year, the cost of books and supplies around $1,330 and encourages students to budget at least $5,940 per year for personal expenses. Projected expenses for room and board, books, and personal expenses vary by individual students' needs and their program.

MS/PhD students (this does not include terminal MS students) are awarded teaching or research assistantships, which cover tuition, health insurance (SHIP), and a stipend. MS/PhD students are still responsible for the student activity fee, for finding their own housing and working out additional costs of living expenses beyond what the stipend provides.

While funding is limited, applicants who are admitted to IL Graduate Programs will be offered any available funding in their admission letter.
