Applying to ILR
Successful applicants to ILR have a strong record of academic success in high school, have demonstrated their leadership skills in extracurricular activities, and have thought about how the study of ILR fits their academic and career interests. They have taken the time to find out about ILR by reading our literature, visiting, and communicating with current ILR students.
Our selection committee will look at your application carefully to get a clear picture of your background, your interests, and your potential for succeeding in the ILR School. If you think the ILR School is where you belong, please feel free to call, write, or visit our office so that we can assist you with any questions you have about the program or application process.
For general information about Cornell's application process, you will also want to check out Cornell's Undergraduate Admission Office (UAO), web pages.
Freshman
If you will complete high school during the current academic year; if you are hoping to attend after your junior year in high school; or if you have graduated from high school but have earned fewer than 12 credits at a college or university, then apply as a freshman.
Transfers
If you are (or have been), a full-time college student or if you have earned 12 or more credits at a college or university since graduating from high school, then apply as a transfer student.
International
About 9% of Cornell's undergraduate students come from more than 120 foreign countries. For ILR-specific information for international students, please review our Application Tips for International Students, which has information on academic qualifications and international application procedures.
For general information about applying to Cornell as an international student, see the International Students Overview.
Still have questions?
If you don’t quite fit into any of these categories, or if your circumstances are unusual, please contact the admissions office. If you want to enroll for up to two semesters and take a full program of study, apply as a visiting student using the transfer application. Please note that you will not be a candidate for a Cornell degree or receive financial aid if you pursue the visiting student option.
