Multinational Enterprises Programme
The Multinational Enterprises Programme is responsible for the promotion and follow-up of the Tripartite Declaration of Principles concerning Multinational Enterprises and Social Policy (MNE Declaration). The MNE Declaration is the only development-oriented instrument in the area of corporate social responsibility that is based on universal principles and standards and has the support of employers, workers and governments.
In addition to the activities related to the MNE Declaration, the Multinational Enterprises Programme is also responsible for ILO’s participation in the UN Global Compact and for coordinating ILO’s work on corporate social responsibility.
Intern responsibilities would include:
- Assist with analyzing and summarizing country replies to the 9th Survey on the Effect given to the ILO Tripartite Declaration of Principles Concerning Multinational Enterprises and Social Policy. This is a survey that is undertake every 3 years in the ILO and is the only global study of the labour and employment impacts of MNEs.
- Assist with a the Programme’s work on the internationalization of industrial relations, this may involve research into particular international agreements between global unions and multinational enterprises, assistance with a project on monitoring such agreements in the chemical, energy, mining and oil sectors, research into some other aspect of internationalization of industrial relations such as coordinated bargaining, world works councils, or international collective agreements. This work would be developed during the intern’s time in Geneva, but the objective would be for them to produce a defined contribution to this area of growing importance in industrial relations.
