Abowd to assume 2014 Society of Labor Economists presidency

Cornell ILR’s Edmund Ezra Day Professor and Fellow of the Institute for Compensation Studies (ICS) Research John M. Abowd has been elected second vice president of the Society of Labor Economists (SOLE). Professor Abowd will assume SOLE presidency in 2014. Abowd is the third Cornell ILR faculty member and sixth ICS Fellow since 2002 to be elected president of SOLE. He is preceded by Cornell ILR colleagues Francis Perkins Professor Francine D. Blau and Irving Ives Professor Ronald G. Ehrenberg.

On the election of Professor Abowd at the Society’s April meeting, ICS Director and Chair of Cornell ILR’s Labor Economics Department Kevin Hallock said: “John is an extraordinary contributor to the field of Economics and we are fortunate to have a third Cornell ILR professor become president of SOLE. He has made fundamental contributions to many areas of compensation, including the structure of earnings and hours, labor and financial markets, product and labor markets, the economics of employer-employee matched data and data confidentiality.”

SOLE publishes the Journal of Labor Economics, the top academic publication in its field, and is affiliated with the European Association of Labor Economics (EALE).
